Sneak Peek Sunday: Bad Ideas

January 14th, 2007

(Mostly inadvertent) Bad Idea, Number One:

Moving into a beautiful hardwood-laden basement apartment, without having any clear idea that we were also moving into the middle of a nasty divorce/custody battle, involving parties addicted to prescription drugs and parties kicked out of the household, but still possessing keys and prone to wanting to use said keys when no one was home but, say, hypothetically of course, me.

We honestly and truly appreciate the woman who rented us the apartment, and my heart hurts for her current struggles, but the problems surrounding the rental, the consistently tumultuous situation, and, eventually, the impending danger we both increasingly felt saw us quickly out of the lease, and out the door. Just as an example of how bad it got, and also how ridiculous we are, we even started keeping a crow-bar next to the bed. A CROW-BAR. What we were going to do with that, I have no idea. But somehow, oddly curved steel sleeping soundly next to us made us feel safer. Or more ninja-like. I’m not entirely sure which.

(Completely Conscious) Bad Idea, Number Two:

Moving (for the second time in six months, yes, and also) in the middle of winter, in Eastern Washington. In fact, more than just a “bad idea,” such silliness probably ranks atop “The Worst Idea, In The History Of Bad Ideas, Ever” list. I think it’s number two. Second only to “Sky-diving with a head cold.”

Bad ideas aside, we are more than thrilled! about our new place. Happier than we were in our previous hardwood floor (non)haven. It’s smaller, in general, but still big for an apartment. 1100 square feet of carpeted cozy-ness. We have a fireplace, which is Chris’ favorite attribute, and two full-size bathrooms, which are mine. We traded an over-abundance of storage space for a place we can actually furnish, and, in preparation, sent an entire truck-full of excess junk packing.

The saddest part about our pre-move purging is that we still have plenty with which we can, and should, part. At this point, I think we’re just working up to it. As soon as our daily temperature rises above thirteen degrees, I fully intend to venture to the garage to pay final homage to more boxes we never should have brought with us.

So, by this point, you’re probably saying, “OK, OK. Enough blither blather already. Show us PICTURES.” To which I would say: “Seriously, I know, right?”

So cozy the camera instantly blurs out of sheer relaxation. Or I can’t hold still. Either way:

Separate dining area, complete with my stuff littered everywhere:

And, look! Our very first piece of chosen furniture. Admittedly, we are a little bit in love with this futon:

A topsy-turvy view of the kitchen, because I’m stellar with the camera skillz:

One more shot of the living room, because, even more than the futon we are in love with the windows. Windows! that let REAL light in, everyday. Windows! that open and close and did I mention how awesome! it is that we hardly ever have to turn on a single light in the daytime hours?

So, there you have it. Bad! ideas, complete with pictures!

As per our usual Sneak Peek Sunday dealings, feel free to show me (and, well, everyone else) yours, now that I’ve shown you mine. While I consider myself infinitely interested, we here at casa de kerrianne do not deal (solely) in peer pressure.

Now, who wants to go sky-diving?

It looks all warm and snuggly. I love all the pictures. Especially the glowing livingroom. He looks content on the couch doesn’t he?

Oh Mon Dieu! That is one beautiful apartment. And a fireplace?!? Wow. I hope there are no unforeseen obstacles to the enjoyment of Beautiful Apartment #2.

PS Twice now that you’ve shared pics of your apt I’ve thought “I should burn more candles.” It just makes everything so cozy and fuzzy and warm. So I should burn more candles!

I like this idea for a sneak-peek. Now that our house is finally looking like a home (after a year and a half of living in it!), I want to show it off, too. We’re having a party next weekend for Roth’s birthday, so there will be some manic cleaning and organizing, and THEN I can show it off to the interweb. But not this weekend. Oh no. There are piles of stuff everywhere and dustbunnies rolling around like tumbleweeds right now. Oh yes. Haven’t quite recovered from the holidays yet.

Oh, and congrats on the new place! I’ve always like moving, not so much the packing part, but the unpacking and find new spots for all your things part. Fun!

That part, the unpacking to find new places is indeed fun! But I could probably live the rest of my life without ever wanting to pack, and subsequently, lift a plethora of boxes filled with heavies ever again. ;)

That futon has your name on it. Or, perhaps, an Australian name. Either way, it’s comfy! and inviting, and green! And: sky-diving and skinny dipping: I smell a bachelorette party of epic proportions. ; ) Love YOU.

I like the coziness. My apartment has the same feeling with the carpeting and the candles, etc. But I am waaay partial to the hardwood floor, but then again sleeping with a crowbar is a little …umm…iffy. So yeah, I guess the coziness is the best option. I must say, it looks good.
