Redemption! Is Mine. Sort Of.

August 28th, 2007

Take THIS, every plant I ever (almost) killed in my lifetime either intentionally* or accidentally:

FlowersThree.jpg

That’s right. I! grew those.

Of course they are, technically, “wild flowers,” and so by “grew” I mostly mean “I planted them and then completely forgot about them.” But, still. A girl has to take full credit where she can get it.

And look! Look how they are still big with the being alive! and growing! and only dying of natural end of the season causes!

Behold, the easiest flower to keep alive:

CementFlower.jpg

One that is painted. On cement.

* Always accidentally. The “intentionally” is just (ground) cover. My green thumb pride, it runs generations deep. My mother and grandmother have always been good at The Growing. And no doubt my great great great grandmothers all the way back to Ireland, England and Poland have boasted luscious gardens that were the talk of their cobblestone neighborhoods. Gardens so lush and green and full to the brim with foliage of all shapes and sizes that small children feared to tread them, they all having been told stories of how little Pavel never returned from a trip to Muriel’s garden when he was just a wee lad.

Great job! With the you know…planting and forgetting of said pretty flowers. :)

And I am horrible about keeping things alive. I just sort of…forget. Oops. It’s a wonder the husband and the cat have both survived this long. Hehe.

    Smooches back at ya.

I’m glad I don’t have a husband or cat to worry about keeping alive. Yet. I’m working on the husband part, but not so much the cat part.

I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again - you are my hero. :)

Do I get to wear a cape now? A green one, maybe?

Those are the best flowers-the ones you plant and forget about. My green thumb is brown. I suck at flowers. But yours are quite pretty!

    —————-
I need more of those “set it and forget it” types, for sure. I think maybe they are called “fake plants.” But I just can’t bring myself to dust my greenery. Yet.

Sheesh! I’m impressed! I doubt I could even grow wild flowers. I’m pretty much the same when it comes to growing things. They die. Cooking things? They get burned. I’m the anti-domestic barbie.

    ————–
Why don’t they make one of those? “Anti-domestic barbie”? I would have felt so much more secure as a child had I bought her instead of “I’m somehow perfect even without having any real anatomy barbie.” Oh, wait. Every barbie has no real anatomy. No wonder I shaved their heads. And polka-dot painted them. SO much more realistic, that. ; )

See? Everyone can grow something… ;) Good job.

    ———————
Thanks! And, yes! everyone can grow something, but not everyone will know that at least part of what they grew isn’t really “wild.” Which is why I’m glad you’re in the picture. I would be florally lost without you. ; )

daisies baby .. grow daisies ~ you can’t kill them if you tried … tee hee ~ i grew rows of them and they are taking over my backyard, lol …

oh and i only made it to 99 days on the 365 ;-)

    —————-
Self-portrait failures of the world, UNITE. ; ) And: I’ve never tried daisies. They are next on my list. Beware, daisies, beware.

So, does that mean if you plant wild flowers, they need less care? Because if so, that’s my kind of flower. I was so excited to start my garden last year, that ended up dying way before summer was over.

    —————–
In theory, yes! it does. But I have been thus informed that apparently not all of my supposed wild flowers are “wild.” Which was a complete accident. But apparently Zinnias are quite hardy.

Hey lady, nice flowers! I like the painted one, too. Cool!

Oh man, I know. My mom, grandmothers, and all the women back to ancient times could grow things and landscape all the while having babies and fighting the plague. It makes me feel so…inadequate! ~

    ——————-
Landscaping while baby-making and plague-fighting is pretty stellar, indeed. Talk about multi-tasking.

I am the anti-green thumb. I wonder if when put in the same room together we would create a black hole.

    —————
    Oooh, maybe! Let’s try it.

I kill things by looking at them.
My kid is lucky she’s still alive.

I think that the power of killing with a look could be very useful. Especially right NOW…

(you can fill in your own scenario as to why I feel the need to kill someone at a glance)

Oh how I feel you on this!!!
