A New Addition

October 22nd, 2007

I’ve hinted about an affection for Pugs in the past, but for quite some time Chris was admittedly skeptical. Chris’ personal dog history is marked by Black Labs, German Shepherds, Rottweiler mixes, essentially any pooch that could be classified as “non-small.”

On Friday Chris came home with this little ankle-biter, and he has fast become “the cutest dog” he has ever owned. He is the only dog I have ever owned, and surely the cutest dog I have ever seen. Cute and sleepy, and then rowdy and sleepy again, prone to chewing everything in sight and then sleeping until he wakes up hungry a few hours later.

IggyBestforsite.jpg

His name is Iggy and he was seven weeks old on Friday, which makes his birthday (the same as my dear Hans‘ so) August 31st.

He is endlessly affectionate and prefers snuggling and napping in our laps to most everything else, save burying his entire adorably rolled face into his bowl of food until half of it is in his belly and the other half is all over the floor around his feet.

The first night he curled up with me on the futon and nuzzled himself directly underneath my neck, nuzzled and kept nuzzling until his entire body was rolled in a ball underneath my chin. I never really understood pet and owner relationships, never really understood why animals were prized as members of the family, given stockings at Christmas and called “children” by doting “parents.”

I think I’m starting to get it.

Am in love with Iggy, completely and utterly in love! I think it’s the beginning of a beautiful partnership, squee.

So sweet! And we totally got our dog a stocking at Christmas last year. It’s funny how fast you get sucked in.

    ——————-
It is! I know we will be buying many a doggy treat for his little stocking this year. And probably many a fuzzy reindeer ear, too.

i’m more into dogs in a “real dog” size rather than the guinea-pig size but this fur ball is surely cute :) the new family’s growing fast, hm? *smooches*

    ——————-
You just called our pup “guinea-pig sized!” Which, well, yes, he is. Although I think he is a rolly polly guinea pig if ever I saw one.

The new fam IS growing fast, indeed. It was so stinking cute to see “Iggy Jernigan” on the vet paperwork. I nearly fell over from the cuteness.

Oh my god, those photos are so cute that they actually hurt a little bit. In a good way. Like, an I-must-have-one way.

Every other day, The Mouse says, “Let’s go get a puppy tomorrow,” as though they’re on sale at Target. We’re waiting until we have a place of our own but it’s a hard wait! I’m sending him a link to this post, just to stoke the fires of his puppy desire.

    ——————-
They really should! put puppies on sale at Target. How much more fun would Target be then? (If that is actually possible? For Target to be * more * fun?)

I feel rather proud to be a part of the puppy fire stoking. It took me only two months to wear Chris down. (Really he wanted one all along; the timing isn’t perfect, but, really, when is it ever?)

Oh you got a puppy! How adorable! We got our dog shortly after we said our vows as well.

And welcome to the club (the dog owner’s club).

    ——————
So we are not the only crazy ones! That makes me feel SO much better, I cannot even tell you. Also: do we get t-shirts? For the club? (Say yes.)

Oooh! He is so cute! Congrats on the new addition!

Awww, how adorable! (And I’m a cat person, not a dog person.)

    ————
He will never really be bigger than a (big, fat) cat. At least, so we were told. But I have my doubts. He’s in love with eating. He’s already working on a little puppy poncho tummy.

    Awwww….he’s so cute!

    —————–
Thank! you. He’s quite ornery, too, which I argue makes him only cuter.

What a cutie! If you’re getting it already, just wait until you’ve had him for a few years. :)

ohmygod that is the cutest little pug EVAR. congrats on your new addition…he seems to be fitting right in. =)

    —————
He seems to fit perfectly right underneath my chin, or right on top of my head, which is how he chose to sleep last night. He is such a nut.

iggy is awesome. and has the best birthday ever. i can’t wait to snuggle him.

i didn’t understand the pet/owner relationship until i moved in with my sister and fell immediately in love with the Sheebs. now, i’m one of those neurotic and overly proud cat owners at whom i used to laugh and roll my eyes. i can’t imagine my life without her.

    —————–
I can’t wait! to give you your (belated, as usual) birthday present; it fits so perfectly with this theme of pet-ness. And I was so! excited when we were told his birthday was August 31st. How rad is that? Pretty rad. And you are going to love him. Especially when you see him hop like a rabbit across the floor. Awesome.

    Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!!

Iggy is SUCH a cute name! I heart him!

    —————-
Chris gets all the credit for naming the little guy. I tried to call him “Goose” but he was having none of it. ; )

OMFG… this is the cutest little thing I’ve ever seen!! I can’t believe they really put “Iggy Jernigan” on the vet paperwork… seriously???

I used to work at a vet’s office and we always new the patients by name, but never the owners ;)

    —————-
Yes, they did! Really! And my heart almost died from the sheer awesomeness. And then they called today to check on him after his first round of shots and a nail clipping. I am in love with our vet’s office.

    Yay for Iggy!!!

We got a pooch too! And I’m with you on the parenthood thing. I wrote about it on my blog… I’m overwhelmed with how I feel about this dog. It’s amazing and incredible and I LOVE it.

Ours is Noodle the Poodle. She’s pretty fantastic.

  26. Amanda Brown said, on 10.27.07 at 3:34 pm

Aw, what a special bonding time! Iggy is so precious! I never understood the whole pet attachment thing either until we got Rolo as a puppy and he slept on my chest for 7 hours and I marveled at his little puppy eyelashes and soft tail and sweet puppy breath. He was our first baby.
    Enjoy your new pup!

  27. kimmyk said, on 10.27.07 at 11:07 pm

Oh my heck. Is Iggy not the cutest damn thing you ever saw???

How sweet!!! I hope you guys have a ball together!

  28. Amy said, on 10.30.07 at 10:48 pm

Awww!! He’s so cute!! I love my 60 pound bundle of fat, lazy joy (a.k.a. June), but she most definitely does not fit under my chin. Or one arm, really.

So what I’m trying to say is, congrats on the new adorable, darling, blindingly cute addition to the newly-official family!

Oh, and I LOVE his name. That’s one you can run down the street yelling as he scampers playfully just out of reach, the little darling. :)

    —————–
Thank! you. And oh, how right you are about the scampering perpetually out of reach part. Only he only does that indoors as of yet. He’s not quite got the “outsides are for walking” part of the equation. He mostly just stares at us, like “Um. What? I’m stationary here,” and then scoots. Until he stops again. It’s definitely a work in progress.

leave it to a few cute puppy pictures to clog up the comments! but i had to add one more. CUTE!!! congrats on iggy and the move and all the good stuff that comes with it all. the boxes, they will be gone soon.

    ————
Thank! you. : ) And yes, just like you said they would the boxes are shrinking exponentially, which is great because I think I was starting to lose my mind a bit. I can’t handle too much clutter. At least, not for extended periods of time. It’s the anal retentive in me.
