Sneak Peek Sunday: Head Congestion Edition

November 4th, 2007

This morning I woke up with the worst head cold known to mankind, the seemingly inevitable fulfilling of a cold prophecy I saw creeping in the shadows of health for about a week now, but one that I had been doing my best to ignore and avoid, a sort of feeble if you can’t see me, I can’t see you duck and cover maneuver.

I have already exhausted a box and a half of Kleenex and can barely think, let alone form cognizant sentences, and so I decided the day will best be spent sitting in my new star socks and watching movies I order from On Demand.

They are very comfortable socks, probably the most comfortable socks I own, mostly because they come almost completely up to my knees, which is a definite perk because they are keeping me cozy warm:

A few hours ago I watched “The Invisible,” starring this guy, and this girl. Her name is Margarita Levieva and in the film she played an amazingly strong and frighteningly broken woman, and depicted her so boldly and with such striking grace that she quickly stole the show from this guy. The fact that she did the majority of her scenes (and scene-stealing) with her head and hair completely covered with either a hood or a beanie, or both, only made her performance more gritty and striking.

Throughout the movie I was literally mesmerized by her performance, and thought she brightly illuminated an otherwise mediocre movie. The plot, save her character, has been mostly done before (think “Ghost,” and even a little bit of “Memento”), and the setting and tone reminded me a bit of “Fear,” only, well, less laden with roller coasters and Mark Wahlberg.

If anyone needs me, I’ll most likely be here for the rest of the evening:

Next on the to-watch list:

Kalifornia or Jaws: The Revenge.

Nothing like really bad sharkamation to beat the perpetually runny nose blues.

Oh dude! I just posted a weekend update, but I judiciously left out the part where we watched The Invisible, because we thought it was horrible! Good idea for a story - badly in need of a rewrite, recasting and reshoot. Yikes!

But that female actress did have some nice hair under that beanie. I’ll give her that. Everything else missed the mark for me.

Sorry you’re sick! That really sucks!

I love that you just watched it, too. The story was pretty predictable, no? But I LOVED HER in that role. I don’t even know that I can explain it, but she was the least predictable, and most interesting, part about the whole movie, I thought.

crap. i can’t believe i am probably responsible for the snottiness with which you are now dealing. my apologies, my frans. sickness mostly sucks.

    ————-
It’s totally not your fault. Really. I was feeling semi-sick for about a week prior to moving; I knew it was coming. It was just a matter of time. I’m so glad you’re feeling better!

Nothing like a nice cushy couch and warm socks to at least make you feel a little bit better. :)

    ————
Exactly! I’m investing in more cozy knee-high socks this winter, for sure.

I’m sorry you’re sick, but I covet your star socks!

They were a (very) recent Saturday Market find. Another reason this city is amazing. And great! for sock shopping.

YES, yes you do. The invitation is forever outstanding. But you best come sooner than that. Or else.

I hope you feel better soon.

Look how well your furniture goes with your new digs! And LOOK how moved in you are!

I know, right? That futon is amazing with the matching of everything. And the coffee tables, too. Which we totally bought on clearance, on a whim last year. I love last-minute purchases. And, hurrah! for no more boxes. Well, ok, I have two more. But, still. PROGRESS.

Thank! you. The congestion is sticking around, but thankfully my nasal drip is subsiding. Mmm..nasal drip.

PS: i hope you watched kalifornia. i love that movie!

    ———–
I ended up watching “The Fountain,” which was, well, confusing? I had no idea what was going on most of the movie, and when it ended I literally was upset. Not my favorite 90 minutes, for sure. I totally should have watched Kalifornia.

I have to say, that looks like a pretty awesome place to be.

    ———–
I’m in love with our futon. It was one of the best “for apartment” purchases we have made thus far. Second only to “a bed.”

Good call to keep to the couch for recuperation time!! Make sure puppy snuggles well. It’s his job now…

Also, I love! tall socks for warm-feet-keeping. Mmm…

    ————-
He is quite the snuggler so I’m all set there. He actually woke me up from a nap yesterday with his (adorable, very loud) snoring. Chris was laughing.

WHAT?!?!?!? Where did all your boxes go??? It’s been like a day and already your house looks so warm and cozy and pit together and inviting! Gah! Why are you so much better at this than I am?

    —————
It’s MAGIC. Magic! I tell you. Ok, well not so much “magic” as “I really haven’t been doing much beyond unpacking, resting, eating, and unpacking some more.” It was driving us nuts, so voila! we made the boxes disappear. Or, well, we recycled them. ; )

I LOVE your socks, and I LOVE you house!!! SO cute! I’m super jeaous.
I only wear tube socks and it’s been that way for about 5 or 6 years. They’re the only ones that will do for me!

I have a disgustingly horrible head cold too, and I am miserable, and I think it is in the process of taking over my sinuses and infecting them with green snotty goo.

    I feel for you.

You have a very nice living room.
