Thin Lines

Someone once said, “There is thin line between love and hate peace and war obscurity and greatness a really ugly site design and a lovely one.”

I am herein wondering: Which is mine? And I promise you I am not posting this because I’m needing a head pat or an ego boost. (Although, who am I kidding? Both are welcome here.)

But seriously you guys, is the new look hideous? Or pretty?

Is it “OK”? Or “please go away”?

I honestly feel like I’m losing it, but: I can’t tell. At all. I have almost torn it down and started over three (thousand) times today.

Schnozz voted first (because I made her) and said it was not ugly but that maybe Hugh wouldn’t snuggle up next to it.

Updated to add: Jenn also admitted she was a fan (before I went nuts around noon today and kept repeating to myself that it was wretched). She does happen to be the resident authority on the color purple (the actual color, not the novel, although she could be an expert on that, too), so perhaps there is hope yet.     I think it’s warm, cozy, and inviting. And I really like what appears to be (or maybe I just wasn’t very notice-y before) the new font for the title.

    Although I do miss the breezy green.

    le sigh. site design is tough stuff. I feel you!

    (And the proper punctuation line at the top… love it!)

    Overall, I’d say thumbs up.

    I really like the colors. Is it at all possible, though, to make the fade between the lighter color and the darker color a little bit more gradual? It’s not a big deal. Overall I really like it.

    Since I can’t compare the old version with this version I’m not sure. But one thing that I’d like to change is the content to sidebar ratios. I like to see the content (posts) be at least twice the width of the side bar. Thus giving it a clear hierarchy. Right now they the two side bars and the posts are all competing (and the side bars are cheating)

    Also, there are too many different fonts going on. I realize the sidebar ones are actually images but the header, post title and misc text seems to be missing synergy.

    But, I do like a wider blog and bigger fonts seem to help a lot of people so you’re heading in the right direction.

    I don’t know if I am qualified to vote since my site basically has no design at the moment. But I agree with the previous commenter who said that it would be nice for the content column to be a wee bit wider in relation to the two sidebars. Otherwise, very nice!

    I love the purple and new font. The peachy color, not so much. But if you tweaked the fade, like Ern said, I think it would help.

    Huh… well, apparently being an expert makes one LOSE THE ABILITY TO SPELL WHAT THEY ARE EXPERTS ON!

    Honestly, I like the old green better. As far as fonts goes, I don’t mind. I don’t think I pay attention. If you love it though, go with it. I’m not gonna stop reading because of the design. Maybe you’ll think of something better in a week? Hang in there! :)

    i like. i’m not a big fan of purple and pink, but i think the shades you chose are subtle and soft and pretty. though i agree with the commenters who mentioned perhaps making the content section in the middle wider to stand out more versus the sidebars.

    but it’s pretty!

    i see blue and yellow.
    now i am confused, and i would also like to say that if you have a twitchy redesign finger you should feel welcome to redesign my site. because i hate it. a lot.
