Manic (Link) Monday: Thinking Aloud Edition

July 28th, 2008

I don’t know why daily Sharpie tattoos are so inspiring, but they are, to me, because: hello! fantastic non-permanent idea and fantastic Sharpie tattoo talent. This one is my favorite.

Speaking of non permanent body art, on Monday of this past week I added a bit of ink of the permanent variety to my body. Seven smallish stars to be exact, behind my right ear, to coincide with the seven that I have behind my left ear. The original post about my first set of stars inked in August of last year is here, and the original set of pictures is here.

These are my newest additions, done by Todd J. at Imperial Tattoo in NW Portland:

Todd is professional and courteous and I highly recommend him. He himself came highly recommended from friends of friends and I plan to visit him again whenever I next make the decision to add more ink. I’m already fighting urges to go back next week, but I want my next piece to be (bigger, and) definitely thoughtful in its choosing, and while I have a few ideas, I’m not one-hundred percent committed to any of them.

Last month I fell into sweet gooey love with strawberry rhubarb pie. Until Meggan’s birthday soirée last month I had never eaten rhubarb anything. I hereby declare it Amazing and my Third Favorite of All Pies, second only to huckleberry and pumpkin.

I recently stumbled upon a few national news articles centering on religious groups meeting to “Pray at the Pump.” The extent to which praying at gas pumps makes no sense to me is as endless as our country’s reliance on foreign oil. I’m sure The Almighty LOVES that we are raping our natural resources to such a ridiculous extent, but don’t worry! If we pray hard enough we will surely be delivered from evil high petroleum prices of our own creation, amen.

While I fully intended on joining the ranks of those who were going to spend their “economic stimulus” checks on Nothing In Particular Whatsoever, I’m still thinking I would rather spend that check on plane tickets. To Lithuania. Or Frankfurt. Or Somewhere That Is Europe, and Portland flies directly to Amsterdam, so perhaps there. I can’t fully explain my newfound travel bug except that I think it’s always been with me, resting just below the surface, and with my new position at work requiring me to organize a large amount of international travel on a weekly basis for Travelers Who Are Not Me, I’m feeling an overwhelming desire to fly out of my comfort and time zones. Thankfully Chris is being endlessly patient with me as I send him a slew of random Kayak fares three times daily.

I didn’t know you had those tats! Cool. I have been itching to get another that is more visible since I loathe the one I got at 19. I just can’t totally commit to the image in my head. That means I am not ready.

I spent my stimulus check on the mortage and the dentist. I hate being responsible.

OHHH! You got them! Now you have to tell us if it hurt! haha

You can fly direct to Frankfurt on Lufthansa for around $1,000 right now. (I have to book a flight for a Traveler Who Is Not Me this week, so I’ve been looking, wishing I were going somewhere Not Here, too.)

Also, yay for the new ink! I meant to look at your first set of stars in person when you were here, but forgot. Tell me, did it hurt? I imagine there’s not much flesh to cushion the needle in that spot!

    Sweet tattoo!
I have that middle flappy part (not sure what it’s called) of my ear pierced too :)

    Ooh, love the new ink!

Your stars are so pretty. Makes me want to have some too. I actually carefully conceptualized and had an artist friend create a tattoo for me, but I never got it placed which is probably a good thing since I don’t regret *not* getting it.

Traveling is an awesome way to spend your days. I’m looking forward to Alaska and then Vegas this fall. I’m also hoping–if plane tickets don’t get too ridiculously high–to make it to Erin Cooks annual Christmas soiree, partly because I love Boston so much but mostly because Erin always has good booze :)

Those tats are sooo cute! I love the little stars… I can never decide what I want next. I’m pretty slow about it, I only have two tattoos and I started in ‘92.

I think that you should spend your stimulus check on overnight lodging in Washington County.

I love the colors! Tucked behind your ear, it’s like a peek-a-boo tatt.

Oh yes, Kayak has been my “best friend” (and enemy, when I look at the round trip prices to Europe!) lately.

If you come to Frankfurt in September, I’ll meet you there :) Promised.

I love those stars! They look REALLY good.

I’m currently going through the process of finding an uber-talented tattoo artist to rework a tattoo on my back. (You would think I was trying to find a nanny for Wito with all of the research I’ve been doing. It’s hard!) ;)

if i were ever to get a tattoo it would definitely involve stars. very fun.

OMG! That is the second cutest tattoo I’ve ever seen! (The first would be mine, of course. Hee.)

I have a friend with stars tattooed in various places on her body. I really like them. It’s just the colorful, big Wonder-Woman-ish wings on her back that I can’t wrap my head around.

  22. Assertagirl said, on 07.29.08 at 4:12 pm

Oooh, pretty. I think I’d like to get another tattoo, too, but like you, I’d like to get something more thoughtful and meaningful inked into my skin than the sunburst I have on my lower back.

I only have one tattoo. It is my college mascot. It is the only tattoo I will ever get because I don’t like anything else enough to put on my body for life. I have the travel bug too. I blame BlogHer.
