Falling Into You
I adore Fall. It’s long been my favorite time of year.
I look forward to the symbolic and physical changes arriving with the first gust of chilly air and the last day of the longest light. I love the fact that I get to order my chai hot and buy copious amounts of scarves, and reasons to read good books grow on gold and red leaf laden trees, and not just because The Wintry Dark, it is coming.
There is something so authentic and so tangibly felt about Fall, the earth so visibly moving into a place of temporary rest, leaning boldly to offer the world one last brilliant flash of bold, dynamic color before succumbing at last to a quiet and cold hibernation.
Here are some of my favorite shots taken this past weekend on a short visit to Hoyt Arboretum, a tree hugger’s paradise just a few blocks away from the apartment:

I’m suddenly craving a flannel blanket, a book, and me in front of a fireplace.
While I attempt to figure out a way to magically construct a fireplace out of two built-in bookshelves in our kitchen, I’ll leave you with my two all time favorite Fall themed pictures, from the Vintage archives.
My cousins Kyle & Ryan, and Theresa & I at a Greenbluff pumpkin patch (Please note Kyle’s awesome He-Man sweatshirt, and the twin mullets my sister and I are rocking):

Dad & I, and a pile of leaves:

I adore fall, too. I’ve been meaning to change my blog banner to something more fall-like, so thanks for the reminder. :)
Such great photos! Makes me want to go jump into a pile of leaves. :-)
Beautiful pictures! Fall is my favorite season.
I love the beginning of fall. I love wearing jeans and flip-flops and breaking out the sweaters and OMG, socks!
But then fall turns into winter and then HATE. Seething HATE. But then spring comes, which is basically fall, but what was sweater temps in the fall, are now T-SHIRTS! AND CAPRIS!
Ahh, seasons. I missed them when I lived in Arizona.
One of my pet plans is to visit a little New England town when the leaves are turning. Ride a bike through the leaves for just long enough to deserve hot apple cider and pumpkin bread by the fire. Sadly, this plan is logistically flawed, as you never know exactly when the leaves are going to be brilliant crimson and when they’re going to be sad piles of mulch.
Love those photos. And Iggy.
LOVE the photos! Especially the last one :)
You know you are welcome to come back here and sit in front of my fireplace ANY TIME.
Beautiful pictures. I love fall too. I miss fall. It was 94 degrees here today, and in a few weeks, the leaves will turn brown and unceremoniously drop overnight. Pleh.
Texas doesn’t have much of a fall, but I still love it.
fall? what’s fall?
it’s totally winter in toronto.
SNOW yesterday. boo!
How freaking AWESOME is that last photo of you and your dad!?! You with your pink cheeks and eyes closed. So cute.
I agree with Sizzle. Makes me want to go jump in a big pile of leaves…with a cappuchino.
Or jump out of a cake with a rake!
:)
You took some really beautiful shots! I especially love the one with the sunlight shining through.
I also love fall! And not just because my birthday is in September. That shot of you and your dad is so great….as are the other INSANELY GORGEOUS SHOTS you took! :) Have a great weekend!
what great pics!
and i love the pic of you and your dad.
how precious!
Fall is a big reason I decided to move to Seattle. In Tucson there is no such thing as a change of seasons, unless you count Hot and Hotter as two separate “seasons”.
Fall is a cozy time when the family tends to spend more time together indoors, while the adults sip hot toddies and the child has a cider and we all watch scary 80s movies and giggle at the size of young Johnny Depp’s hair in te original Nightmare on Elm Street.
We also take our annual week long family vacation in the Fall so that’s a big part in my love for Fall too. :o)
Great pics! I showed off Iggy to the child and she wants one now too (I have to admit I want a lil Iggy of my own too.)
