Manic (Link) Monday: Snorkeling Rodent Edition

From The Dilbert Blog
“I opened my web browser today and noticed a story about a man in Oregon who was snorkeling in a river and got shot in the head because some other guy thought he was a rodent.
There is nothing funny about being shot in the head. Unless you were snorkeling in a [...]

The Update, Wha Wha, The Update

Remember when I told you I was mostly unemployed? And trying harder than one would think to avoid that cozy, yet a bit too cramped for my style, van, down by the river? But, no, not that van. Because who, I mean really, avoids that van?
Remember?
No?
It was over a week ago, and if you too [...]

Zoinks!

I had an interview this afternoon. For an interesting position, with a company with whom I would very much like to be employed.
I’m sitting here right this moment thinking about everything I should have said, and didn’t. Things like, “I’m really, REALLY good at sending faxes.” And: “Multi-tasking? No problem!” Or maybe: “Honestly, I just [...]

Haiku For A Job Interview

—-> Updated to add, excerpts from the email I sent to the lovely and talented Hans after she asked if the silly Haikus were signifying a successful job interviewing endeavor this afternoon:
Hey you. Thanks! for checking in. About the jobs: I really don’t know yet. Apparently, I was just in the mood to write silly, [...]

Sneak Peek Sunday: Bad Ideas

(Mostly inadvertent) Bad Idea, Number One:
Moving into a beautiful hardwood-laden basement apartment, without having any clear idea that we were also moving into the middle of a nasty divorce/custody battle, involving parties addicted to prescription drugs and parties kicked out of the household, but still possessing keys and prone to wanting to use said [...]

Home Of The Soon-To-Be Patented Hyper-Active (And Neon! Glowing) Wedding Goo*

Exhibit A:
An email received from the knot dot com, a site on which I perused for clearly far too long, and on which I definitely provided too much information, as they now see fit to joyfully! and I’m sure wholly unintentionally! remind me that I am nowhere! near finished with the preparation, for the [...]

Dear Brake Repair, Man:

I sincerely appreciate your greasy hands and your greasy face (nice touch, by the way) and your greasy hard work. Especially when said hard work fixed my brakes from the stop. stop. ok, now I’m really stopping. sort of pulsing to which my car had been prone for weeks.
Clearly, you are good at what you [...]

0 for 2

Today has been one of those days. A “stick me in the eye with a hot poker because could anything else go wrong? Really? I mean, honestly?” sort of day. You know the ones.
It’s rained ALL day long, flooding myriad streets and, apparently, even stalling cars. Who knew puddles had such power? We witnessed one [...]

The Irony Is Not Lost On Me

I’m not quite sure when The GreatWhiteWet started falling, but I know it’s been going strong for hours, and doesn’t look to stop any time soon. We were set to have “rain” for the next five days, but it’s beginning to look (a lot like Christmas…) like the frigid temperatures have altered that forecast ever [...]

More Than A Feeling, Or: Of Excuses And Raw Noses

If I could sum up the way I currently feel in one word, I think I would choose, without much deliberation, because my head is too foggy and my nose too runny for such in-depth thought-processes:
“gross.”
“Gross” as in “You show me a sinus infection, and I’ll show you, well, my tissue-reliant, stuffy-sounding, antibiotic-popping self.”
“Gross” as [...]
